------------------------------------
The Crystal Palace Subway is concealed under the road of the Crystal Palace Parade. This vaulted Victorian subway, built with the help of Italian craftsmen, was opened in 1865 and linked the High Level Station to the centre of the Crystal Palace itself (neither the station or the Crystal Palace remain).
The pattern of the original red and cream brickwork is reproduced in these monochrome graphic art prints.
The Crystal Palace Subway was used as an air raid shelter in WW2 and was featured in the Chemical Brothers’ Setting Sun video. It’s currently closed to the public.
